which have led so many Chinese to lose confidence in our foreign States have often been aggressive and unfair to China. What has happened this week in Shanghai was not produced in a day; it is the result of past years.
We are convinced that our relations with China will never be satisfactory unless they are based entirely upon the principle of justice, and it seems to us ONLY BARE JUSTICE that China should be treated now and in the future as a full member of the family of nations. So far as treaties between China and foreign Powers do not uphold this relationship they should be revised and brought into harmony with it.
We would also earnestly hope that the present occasion, as it affects both Shanghai and also other parts of China, should not be used as an opportunity for foreign interference, but rather as an occasion for a serious attempt to satisfy the legitimate aspirations of the Chinese people, and for working out with mutual respect better and more equitable relationships.
Further, we wish to assure our Chinese friends that it is our purpose, through whatever channels are open to us, both in conjunction with our fellow missionaries throughout China and in representations to our governments, to do our utmost to secure the realization of the principles and aims we have herein briefly stated.
Passed by the entire Foreign Community of the Canton Christian College, Canton, China.

APPENDIX
N.
Resolutions passed, according to the Canton Gazette, by Seventeen American Members of the Canton Christian College Staff.
"Whereas on the afternoon of June 23rd, 1925, a Chinese patriotic parade marching along the Bund and Shakee, Canton, was fired upon by Shameen troops, and
"Whereas the parade was proceeding in an orderly manner and was composed largely of students and workmen unarmed and defenceless, and
"Whereas in consequence of the shooting, many were killed and wounded, including members of our staff and student body,
"BE IT THEREFORE FREELY AND VOLUNTARI- LY RESOLVED that we, American members of the staff of Canton Christian College, express our horror and regret that such an outrage should have occurred, and
"That we are of opinion that the blame and responsibility for the merciless and unjustified assault rests upon those who directed the firing from Shameen, and
"That we express to our Chinese colleagues, students and friends our deep felt sympathy and our support, and
“That, since we feel that the world has been inadequately informed of the Chinese viewpoint, we are determined to co-operate with the Chinese in the presentation of their case. and
"That we make our position known directly to the American Government and to the American people with the hope that America will do all in her power to assist China in securing just treatment and in realising her aims to free herself from foreign Imperialism."
